I love that you put this together! Thank you for including me! It’s so hard to enter the wilderness of substack and find writers who are outside my network. This is a great list and I can’t wait to go through it.
Thank you for curating these AAPI creators! I am a Filipina Chinese American picture book writer and write reviews of picture books by/about Asians/Asian Americans in my weekly newsletter, A Perpetual Work in Progress, plus other teacher-y, writerly, and life lesson tidbits. Here's a post that shares my experience at the Asian American Voices writing retreat at the Highlights Foundation.
this is an awesome list, cissy. i’ve saved this piece so that i can slowly go through the features later.
if you’re still curating the list of AAPI writers exploring the ‘in-between’, i’d love to self-nominate. i’ve committed to a year of backpacking — not nomading, not working — as a means of rediscovering purpose after leaving a 6-figure career behind, and am writing about the journey as i go along.
appreciate the self-nomination. I'll continue to work on projects like these :) will keep you in mind Kora! wow, a year of backpacking sounds like a deeply transformative experience
Yes, a list of AAPI writers! I so often see curated lists of writers and there's always a part of me that wishes I saw more folks who are like me in them. Representation matters, as trite as that may sound. It needs to be said louder for those in the back.. and even outside the room.
I can tell it took a significant amount of time and care to put this all together. I'm really honored to be listed among so many of these writers, some I follow/read already and others I've discovered and subscribed to thanks to your list.
This is an amazing collection of writers! This feeling of 'otherness' is one that I've struggled with so much, and reading/writing is always the way I've been able to find comfort. So excited to read more from the writers that you've shared here.
Yay Cissy! Thank you. THIS 'wrestling with my “otherness” and finding my voice' This is Community in Action. @Robin Taylor another to add to SmallStack!

I know what you mean – I find myself nesting in the same communities, this was an exercise in journeying outwards a bit more than usual :)
thank you so much for the mention! love that you're elevating other AAPI writers <3
thanks for cultivating the courage to speak your truth :)
